I created the background for "Ghost Rose" by intuitively dragging and scraping a credit card through blobs of paint over a masked image. After I was satisfied with the hues, values and scratches, I removed the mask to reveal the white paper beneath. I then shaded and colored the rose and leaves, finishing with a razor blade to bring back white highlights.
