A friend had seen an ancient painting of horses and waves (Poseidon, I think). She urged me to paint the idea. In my mind I saw those manes frothing as they turned to waves, hooves kicking up foam as the waves rose.
This painting was done using watercolor pour technique—whites and lights are masked, paint is poured and blended by tilting and shaking the board, layer after layer. Only at the end is a brush used to paint in the fine details.
